I've had this for about 2 months now and it's been on the whole time since I unpacked it. The amount of dust you see next to the filter cartridge is the amount it has sucked in during that time. I can say it does a pretty good job of keeping our open plan living room/kitchen/stairwell/hallways free from a lot of dust. There is still noticeable dust on some surfaces, but significantly less than before. For example, I used to have to clean the top of my bookshelf PC speakers every week, now I do it every few weeks and the dust is finer, no big chunks or hairs anymore. This thing is also very effective at getting rid of pet hair within a 6 foot radius, which happens to be an area our dogs like to sit in.
