Review on Baxton Studio BBT8013-Black Chair: Sleek and Comfortable Armchairs in Black by Angie Miller

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A very good chair. See my details for some valuable build tips!

This is a very durable and well built chair that rivals anything in this style found in mainstream stores and at a significantly better price! It's also very comfortable and doesn't sit too low in my opinion. Below are tips for washing your pillow. The faux leather is very good. NOT shiny as shown. It's more of a nice matte finish. If you look very closely, it has a very small/thin indentation on the surface. The pads are very hard at first, but they will break. To speed up this process, stand over a chair with your fists clenched and your elbows crossed and push (don't smack lol) your fists down and into the pillow. Do this on the entire top of the seat cushion. Repeat this until you get the desired relief on the surface while sitting. I will mention a few things that will likely be covered in other reviews. I have already assembled desks, tables and chairs. This chair assembly is on medium difficulty. But not impossible. Go slow and follow my advice and you will be fine. I would allow about an hour for unpacking, sorting the parts, assembling and cleaning. The instructions are far from clear/obvious, they are all pictures so you may need to keep looking at the pictures and maybe even experiment a bit. Hence the first rule: Don't overtighten until everything is ready, and then overtighten, but don't crank. Tip #1: There is a hidden camera on the underside of the seat cushion. Open the fabric to reveal three holes where you will insert screws to attach the seat to the backrest. This is not mentioned in the instructions! Tip #2: Only apply one of the levers at first. Why? There is a crossbar between the two arms that runs through the front and they will have wooden pegs. The only way to get the rod in place with the dowels is to first insert the rod into ONE arm and then install the second arm on the chair by inserting it into the other dowel. If the two levers are already in place, it is not possible to insert the crossbar with the dowels installed between the levers. Tip #3, an Allen key is included, but you'll probably need a Phillips screwdriver for one step. a flat head screwdriver for another and a hammer or rubber mallet (preferable if you have one to reduce the risk of damaging the wood). The hammer/mallet is used to drive in the aforementioned wooden dowels as well as attach 6 wooden handles that cover the studs. place is easy. In particular, it is difficult to measure pitch with a "cut nut". If you look into the hole with a flashlight, you can use a flathead screwdriver to adjust the wing nut so that it aligns just before inserting the screws. Out of the box I had a couple of very minor blemishes that would need to be buffed out with super smooth sandpaper and a stain. This was no major damage and not worth returning for a replacement. If you can find and fix this (or ignore it) and it's not a serious problem, call Amazon and ask for compensation for the defects. So this is a really nice stylish retro chair at a great price that is built to last and worth a little more effort to put together.
