I really can't say how long this will last before weeds break through. But it was easy to cut with standard scissors. Another brand I tried frayed at the ends and left strings when I cut it. This one is more like fabric than plastic. It's heavy enough to lay flat until it's covered with mulch. I'm optimistic.
