I panicked and bought an API Marine Algaefix when hair algae growing on java moss completely bombed my fresh water tank. The product killed the hair algae with no problem. However, when I tried using Marine's special green water treatment product in another of my tanks, it did absolutely nothing. Went back and did a little research and found that the marine strain had no effect on green algae in a freshwater aquarium. I bought this product, which is not a marine option, and it cleaned up my green water, which for some reason I've been struggling with for months (have kept aquariums for years and never had this problem), in two doses. Otherwise, please read the reviews of this product before using it. I have personally kept aquariums and worked with several LFS's over the years and while you may not want to hear it I can guarantee that anyone who leaves a comment saying all their fish have died has abused this product. I think it's worth repeating that a fully stocked 10 gallon tank will NOT hold 10 gallons of water. It's far better to underuse and build up slowly (seriously, no more than two extra drops at a time) than willy-nilly overwater and empty the tank.
