I bought this radio for my elderly mother who wanted a small radio to carry around but she also wanted one better sound than a tiny pocket transistor radio. This model hit the sweet spot between a tiny pocket radio and the radio on her kitchen table. She reports that the controls are easy to use and the stations are easy to see. She appreciates the tone switch and the overall sound of this radio. She laughed when she saw how far the antenna reached, but turns out she didn't have to take it off at all to get great reception anywhere in her apartment. In fact, even with the antenna not extended, reception is better than your boombox. The only problem is the headphone jack. This is a mono radio so stereo headphones will only sound from one side unless you use an adapter. Other reviewers have reported success with these adapters, but my mom couldn't get hers to work. This could be user error or a bad adapter, not a problem with the radio itself. You might have better luck. If you don't care about mono earphones, I recommend this little radio.
