Review on DF51-01 PLA 3D Printer Filament by Dremel by Eric Power

Good quality, too expensive

Dremel thread is good quality. The colors I tried are good. The gold looks vaguely metallic, the white is whiter than most other white threads I've tried, and the red (although translucent) is a nice red color and not too orange. Silver is more gray, but also beautiful. One thing I love that I haven't seen with other filament I've bought is the indicator on the inside of the spool that lets you estimate how much filament is left on the spool. However, it's hard to ignore that this yarn is almost three times the price of other popular yarns like Hatchbox. The difference between $30 for a half pound and $23 for a full pound. In other words, you have to pay $60 just to reach the amount you get from Hatchbox for $23. It's pretty crazy. The Dremel 3D Idea Builder is great for using 3rd party filament. You can either use an external spool holder or 3D print a universal holder from Thingiverse, which actually replaces the holder in the Idea Builder and allows you to use almost anything. There's some concern that this might void your warranty, but unless you're using ridiculously cheap Chinese eBay stuff, there's no reason to think third-party filament is going to cause any particular problems. I've honestly had more issues with the Dremel than the Hatchbox (although I mostly attribute this to my own inexperience as it's my first time getting started with 3D printing). In summary, while there is nothing wrong with this thread, I cannot recommend it due to other much cheaper options.
