This device supports an SD card for easy file transfer back and forth via a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 port. It features a nifty spring-loaded holder that fully retracts an SD/SDXC card, allowing it to be stored there indefinitely and then used as a USB flash drive. If you are frustrated by the lack of reliable USB 3.0 capable flash drives, consider using one with the SDXC card described below. The speed/cost/performance ratio is amazing. I tested file transfer speed by moving 30GB of files and folders to a Sandisk "SDXC UHS-I 64GB card ("up to 45MB/s, 300x speed")" and all files copied to the SDXC card in about 30 minutes through the USB 3.0 port. This is impressive when compared to the recently tested 64GB Memorex USB 3.0 flash drive, which took 45 minutes per test (after reformatting) or around 1 hour out of the box to transfer the same files and folders. Also, the Memorex drive had no drive activity LED. The Tripp-Lite USB 3.0 Ultra-Speed Card Reader is made of high-gloss black plastic and features a large chevron-shaped blue LED that indicates drive activity. It's about the height and thickness of a BIC lighter, but about 1.5 times as wide. I wish it included a magnetic dust cap for the plug.
