closed belt loops. The problem is that closed loops invariably break or tear the skin covering the main clip, exposing more and more of the metal clip. Then I found this Nite Ize holster. The hook on the underside of the clip is excellent at preventing the holster from accidentally slipping off the belt. Even when I'm not wearing a belt, I can just clip it to my pants and the clip hooks into the inseam and keeps the pocket from sliding down. Because they work well with or without a strap, I bought these cases for my wife (never wears straps) and my kids. The plastic clip is flexible yet strong - we haven't broken one yet. The holster itself is as sturdy as it looks and protects my phone well - I do camping and hiking so that's a big plus for me. It has a pocket for cash, cards and my DL so I can leave my wallet at home and do light overnight backpacking. Note that this holster *makes a noise* when opened. As other reviewers have pointed out, the lid is held closed with Velcro - it's not magnetic like most leather cases. That's not a problem for me, but if you want a holster that opens silently, this holster isn't for you. What do our holsters hold? - I am currently using the XL version of the holster for my Nexus. 6 with Ringke Max case. - The larger version of this holster fits my previous Nexus 5 phone with hybrid case. - Several other family members use a larger version of this holster for their Samsung Galaxy S3/S4. Phones, even with hybrid cases - One of my daughters uses a Motorola G with a snap-on hard case. This phone fits snugly in their new medium version of this holster, but the fit should improve once the holster's elastic loosens a bit. All in all, I'm more than happy with this product (and I hope they don't stop making them).
