Simple but nuanced (you need a second switch and mounting hardware)

So I got this bluetooth board and hooked it up to a power board with a lithium battery and some speakers. Wall connection was very easy and the sound quality was pretty damn good for the price. But. There is one thing about this board that really annoys me and I just can't let it go. The volume control is also a switch. You would think that this switch would turn off the entire board. But that's not the case! It can turn off the amplifier, but will not turn off the bluetooth radio. If you turn it all the way down (you know it's "off" when it clicks), the Bluetooth device is still on and connected to your phone, tablet or whatever. During initial testing, we turned everything off and my son wanted to go back to watching YouTube on his tablet but there was no sound. That's when we discovered that his tablet was still connected to that Bluetooth radio, even though it was turned off. I had to cut the power completely to turn off the radio. So, besides the button as a switch, you need to install some kind of power switch on the input power supply. Simple solution, but it sucked that we had to wait for another component (the switch I ordered) before we could finish building. Oh, one more thing. They supply a lexan plate for mounting the amplifier. but there is no excess around the board so you can attach the board to anything. I think you can glue it but I wanted it to be vertical. It took some work to make it. The screw holes in the four corners are SUPER small. Why can't it be at least #4 screws, but they're more likely to be #2 screws or something. Oh and one more thing. The length of the threaded portion of the volume potentiometer allows the use of material as thin as 0.2 inch. This is normal for metal but becomes very thin when working with plastic and wood. Other than that, it was a neat little device. About the little ones there.

Pros
  • Receiver and amplifier
Cons
  • No insurance
