DYI: Fits perfectly on my 1995 GMC K1500 (like the Chevy version). PIECE: A piece of the same size/shape as the original with one exception. The main bushing attached to the gearbox was the original metal and plastic combination I had read about and I broke it easily as the two materials heated and cooled at different rates. The new part is completely made of plastic, which can actually be an advantage and avoid this problem. INSTALLATION: The instructions provided are vague and visiting the Dorman.com website was not very helpful. You see, this part is used in two different places in these pickups. MAKE SURE to turn on the key, then turn off all HVAC/FAN controls, then pull out the key and REMOVE the battery cable (if you turn on HVAC/FAN during installation you will regret it (alignment will be disturbed and you will go insane ).1 ) MODE DAMPER (controls airflow to floor/dashboard, defrost/combo). This is where your right foot is (slightly above and to the right of the accelerator pedal). It's simple - unscrew the two screws, disconnect and remove the connector, install in the reverse order. 2) TEMPERATURE DAMPER (controls the hot/cold air mixture): Mine was naturally harder behind the ashtray portion of the dash. To do this, the instructions say "roll the stroke forward," meaning to remove ENTIRE the stroke and move it forward to gain access. A MUCH BETTER METHOD IS AVAILABLE. Simply remove the glove box (open door, slide/remove cable from left side, slide glove box backwards until it falls onto you and lift the entire assembly (reverse to reinstall). Remove ashtray (open and re-insert on sides ).have two open but closed access points to replace that part of the damper. You will need a set of dwarf heads (small ones) with a 5/32 head and a long extension to remove a bolt through the ashtray.I then used the same head and dwarf Just the ratchet and remove the second screw, one click at a time. Remember I said LITTLE access is available. After removing the skin from the knuckles, remove the wire connector (pull first by the tab at the top / pull up to release) ) Now the part comes out and you're questioning your sanity. Be patient, grasshopper - go to your happy place. In my case, I had to make the sleeve fit (pin white pla hollow hole in top of partial image). The new part was oriented differently so it just came loose. four bolts, the gear pulled out by hand and turned until its position matched the old part removed. If you try a part and it doesn't fit, you probably need to too. Once I did that, I "cut" the part and I put the screws back in (tip - you may need to use a small piece of tape to hold the screw in place until you can get it in the hole ). Finish by reinstalling the ashtray, glove box and battery cable. Start the car and check operation. Mine was golden and I hope yours will be too. A great way to build character.
