With this one at $30, there are many fireproof mats that are bigger and/or cheaper. But most of the alternatives aren't quite so portable.This mat folds up into a rectangle of just a few inches, which is great for keeping in my small camper. I use this for my mini camp grill, and for campsites where there are extra restrictions about fires being self-contained (many of these places don't include fire rings, perhaps as an extra challenge to discourage people from burning at all).It works well under my mini charcoal grill. If anything, it's a little on the big side and sometimes I need to lay some rocks around the edges to keep it in place. That's not often, because it's not extremely lightweight so it doesn't move around much, but in areas with fewer windbreaks it's a helpful extra step along with a wind screen for the grill.It works very well under my raised mesh fire pit, though, as an extra protection between the fire and the ground.Note that you should check the dimensions to see if it will meet your needs. One of the photos in the listing shows it under an absolutely massive concrete fire pit, but this thing is 26" in diameter. It's just barely the same size as the legs of a standard weber kettle grill. It's great for smaller grills and fire pits, but please be sure you know what size will work for you.
