This broom is designed for cleaning indoor floors or for dusting and light sawdust in a shop. It is also not suitable for workshop or shop cleaning when the material to be removed is a mix of heavy and light items. The broom head will not scratch or catch small heavy objects such as nuts, bolts, nails or metal splinters. The bristles are not that hard. I gave it five stars because it's a great choice for cleaning kitchens, hardwood floors, oriental or fine-pile carpets. This broom will not scratch floors or spoil expensive carpets.
