Do this because we are in a temporary location and I didn't want to cut my long mic cables that we run under the floor these connectors provide Excellent extension from the cable to the base plate. No need to cut and solder the wire. If it was a permanent installation, soldering would be fine. I recommend them for a quick installation. My only criticism of these adapters is that they and the matching base plate I bought for them Penn-Elcom D0949K Dish One Neutrik D Black 4 x 4-3/8 http://www.amazon.com/gp/ product/B0006N40PM are / ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_3 were not supplied with screws. Otherwise they are great.
