I am a retired teacher and have always used manipulation with my students in grades 4-6. Fractions were a staple in my class. As a result, I bought two sets of this wonderful tool. I bought the first set for my 2nd grade granddaughter. She asked about fractions and what they stand for. After showing and explaining the tiles to her, I asked her to play with them and tell me everything she had learned. She found that four 1/4 tiles fit together. She found that a total of eight 1/8 tiles would fit, and she calculated that two 1/4 tiles would fit on top of a 1/2 tile. She was also able to transfer this knowledge to the piano lessons because now she understands that a bar has 4 quarter notes etc. We also used tiles to learn how to add and subtract fractions. My other granddaughter, a fifth grader, used tiles for homework, which is particularly important for distance learning during Covid. Since both girls used them a lot, I bought a second set so each could have their own. This is a great product. We love it!
