heats the water - that's what it's for. I would change a few things if I could. It would be handy if the handle stayed vertical as shown in the photo, but for me it's not critical. The lid is a bit difficult to open when water is added (we leave it on the stovetop, on the stand) if you're wearing hot gloves or an oven mitt - again, not a huge problem. A little medley and a few liters of water and you're good to go. Be careful not to pour in too much water or the snout could boil away. Throw a party on the Garth.
