SATA yes, IDE sometimes yes, sometimes no.

We bought this unit because like many others over the years we have replaced broken computers and wanted to try and recover data from them. Mostly family photos and such. SATA drives we've used this on, it worked fine and was able to get info, format the drive and slave the drive. The problem we had, like others, was that some IDE drives worked and stopped working after a while. With some of the IDEs we had, we were able to get most of the data we wanted, but were unable to format and save the drive. We weren't really concerned about storing the IDE drive, but people should be aware that for some reason IDE drives don't like running on these types of adapters for long periods of time as this isn't the first adapter we've seen have tried. And some IDE drives will boot up and behave like they work, but won't show up or be recognized by Windows. Speaking of which, can I recommend this one? I would. It has proven far more successful than most of the other adapters we've tried.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • Worries me
