Review on CLEARAUDIO V2 PHONO PREAMPLIFIER Clearaudio by Sara Houck

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Volume control solved the deal for me

Pros: Great musical sound, dedicated resistor works in both MM and MC modes, so you can control your audio can easily load Technica rolls down to 32k or 36k where they're happy, super quiet in MM mode even at max gain, volume control is handy for copying to portable recorders so you don't clip the input, great fit and finish at its best Level! , very small Disadvantages: permanently connected power cable, MC mode too loud for my Denon 0.21 mV, non-adjustable capacitance, very clumsy ground pin. Not the last word in breadth, but still very good in that regard. Verdict: An excellent choice for high performance moving coil pickups and moving magnet carts that are good at 220pf or that sound good under 47k load. I also have an iFi iPhono Nano and while I can tell big differences between all my other phono stages, these two are almost indistinguishable at the same settings. iFi is cheaper, more configurable at boot, and much quieter in MC mode. This Clearaudio wins in terms of form factor (all ports on the back), looks and most importantly volume adjustment, so I paired it with the Ortofon MC3 Turbo, Denon DL-110 and Audio Technica AT150MLx on the Technics SL-. 1200MKII.
