Review on Enhance Security with Defender Security U 9513 Latch Shield - 12 in., Steel, Gray, for In-Swinging Doors by Jeff Shapiro

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Simple and inexpensive retrofitting of the revolving door security system.

This door guard is useful for swing doors and provides an extra layer of protection against attempted tampering between the frame/bolt and the door locking mechanism (e.g. crowbar, flathead screwdriver, credit card or similar tool). . to unlock the door). It comes with 4 Phillips pan head screws for the part that attaches to the door and 4 security screws to attach the other part to the frame. There are also 2 short Phillips screws that are used to temporarily level the frame before using the security screws. These should be used as it is impossible to remove the security screws if you wish to misalign and start over (at least not without special bits and/or destroying the security screws in the process). With the right tools (Phillips and flat heads plus impact wrenches or drills) installation takes 5 minutes. It's only available in gray and I wanted it to match my brown door and frame better so I used Rustoleum spray paint (1 coat gray primer, 2 coats flat topcoat) to get a close color match. The end result greatly improves our security without sacrificing appearance. A few considerations: You want the Phillips head screws in the door section to be hidden by the part attached to the frame when the door is closed. This will prevent them from simply unscrewing from the door. Make sure the guard does not prevent the door from closing. You don't want the frame piece to hit the door piece when the door is normally closed. The door must close properly, with enough pressure on the gasket to seal from the outside. It requires no instructions. But if you have the right bits, tools, and correctly marked holes, installation is very easy. Do not re-insert the security screws until you are sure everything is aligned and properly closed. To check, screw in the shorter Phillips screws as far as they will go. Then insert 2 mounting bolts, then remove the check bolts and insert the last 2 mounting bolts. A piece of cake.
