miniAlley Booknook Magician Bookcase Insert The Alley Book Nook Bookcase (Purple) is a really cool display that can be placed on a bookshelf or on a desk so you can enjoy it can admire . There is a lot of detail to see and the clever use of the mirror creates the illusion of an alley continuing around the curve you see from behind. The purple backlight is pretty subtle, but the cauldron and flower boxes are pretty bright. The display won't illuminate you, but will glow nicely on your shelf. The set is very well made and installed in a very stable case. Attention was paid to details and finishes. It also comes with extras - two small barrels and a chest that you can arrange however you like after putting it on the shelf. There is a place to add other little magic things you may have. My set was slightly damaged in shipping. The front shield hangs on a filigree bracket and is attached with wafer-thin wire. The bracket detached and fell off, and the wire broke, causing them to detach from the display. No big deal - I made a small chain for the sign, reattached it to the bracket, and glued the bracket in place. The set requires 4 AA batteries [not included]. The battery compartment is on top of the display for easy access and has a wooden cover that matches the rest of the box so you won't even notice. The light is turned on with an easy-to-use toggle switch located just in front of the battery compartment. I am very happy to have this beautiful and whimsical display on my shelf.
