Not smooth and leaves poorer coverage than 1000 grit.

. Well I guess I shouldn't have. Luckily my stone didn't crack or fall out like some other reviewers did. However, the stone was only flat at the edges and not in the middle. I noticed that before grinding. I put it on a flat surface and it started rocking back and forth. It was very noticeable when sharpened, leaving an uneven finish. It also dulled and dulled the edge previously left by the 1000 grit yellow stone! As? I've seen others mention this issue. I got a much better finish with the yellow stone than the blue. I might try again in the future, but for now I'm sticking with Yellowstone and Sling. Avoid this product and don't believe the positive reviews.
