I'm a software engineer and I needed a relatively inexpensive laptop that I could take with me while not having to worry about my Mac, worth over $2,000. About the book. I do a lot of cloud development and use a lot of resources online, so I figured I didn't need to lug around a regular laptop. Since I obviously type a lot, I was hoping for a decent keyboard and was pleasantly surprised. The keyboard on this machine is actually quite comfortable. And let's be honest. Most of the things we do on a computer every day are done by a Chromebook, and that's a wide range of apps and extensions available (for Chrome). Of course, we cannot completely detach ourselves from a full-fledged laptop or desktop computer with Linux, OS X or Windows for this special application. But the Chromebook has its niche. I just received and installed it. One thing I didn't like about the Chromebooks I've looked at in the past is their crappy cases and keyboards and the high price. Not only does this device have a nice aluminum body (which is very attractive), but it also has a decent keyboard with far better feel than any Chromebook I've looked at in the past. It actually looks and feels like a laptop, not a plastic toy. The hardware specs are very good compared to other offerings: 4GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, quad-core processor, etc. The screen is nice, the speakers are good. very good. Actually better than some of my laptops. The mouse area is responsive and feels comfortable. Overall, the device has a slim profile and light weight. When I compared this model to models from other manufacturers, the only thing that surprised me was the lack of a card reader/writer. Ultimately I decided that: (a) with Google Drive, Microsoft Drive, Box, Dropbox etc there is no good reason to need a reader/writer as I can just store and load what I want from the cloud and (b) 32GB is enough local storage space for a Chromebook. So far I am very satisfied with the purchase and can only recommend it.
