Review on πŸŽ₯ Optimized Vlogging Cage for GoPro HERO8 Black by SmallRig (CVG2505) by David Burns

Like the overall design with some annoying features

Overall I'm satisfied. I have several SmallRig products and since my GoPro 7 Black is a secondary/b-roll camera I wanted to be able to quickly take it out and use an external battery so I don't have to worry about battery life at all. As usual, the one-piece CNC machining is amazing. My GoPro 7 fits like a glove and really offers enough protection as well as the ability to add a variety of accessories. So I had to switch to an expensive GoPro mic adapter, but with that said and done I can now get clean sound with my old 6D MKII cage using my Rode Go wireless mic shown here. Yes, it's probably overkill, but also keeping everything in one area while still being very light. . Even when shooting in 4K, there is no vignetting or blackout in the corners, which made me very happy. Why 4 stars is how the microphone/power supply was designed. I wish there was an option to change the orientation as I feel like setting it up as is will bend the cable unnecessarily. I played around with this for about an hour trying to find a way to attach other accessories and plates, but ended up using a DSLR cage. I understand they made it more compact but I would like it to be a two piece design or have the option to adjust orientation. This is probably a personal opinion, but overall I'm still happy with the purchase. It's reliable and gets the job done, and if you want serious footage direct from your GoPro then you really have a choice. I've heard people say WHY GOPRO? But that's about as bad as asking the same people why they don't have a RED 8K or a Z CAM 8K instead of their mirrorless ones (I have a Canon EOS R as my main camera). That's it. Enjoy what you shoot!

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance

Poor quality machining, had to modify to get it to work.
