Thank god for this device. I bought an 8TB Seagate hard drive which I used to keep all my backup data in one place. Put all my files from my random drives onto this giant beast and then format the drives I moved just for the 8TB Seagate to become DEAD for me. It's only a month old and no noise, no clicking, just a power light. By pressing "F". I could replace the drive with a new one, but I need DATA, not just a new drive! I decided to do my own data recovery and opened the case. My plan was to connect the HDD directly to USB via SATA to see if I could diagnose the problem. After removing the hard drive from the case and board (more on that in a moment), I plugged the SATA to USB cable into the drive and got nothing. I noticed a 4-pin power insert next to the SATA, but the HDD didn't use it in the enclosure. But that gave me the idea that I should try feeding this beast and then diagnose it. I got this SATA cable with separate power supply and connected it to a bare hard drive - IT'S ALIVE! All my files were safe and waiting to be moved to a much more reliable (but smaller) 2TB SDD. It turned out that the power board in the original Seagate case had just failed. Bullet dodged and I can actually use a bare hard drive to store large (but not that important) backups with this cable!
