Face and hands, you won't have it so good. Feet are always sweaty so the coat is great there, hands get wet in the snow and you're always breathing so your mask/hat always gets wet. If you use fleece, you'll find that even on windshields with mouth holes, it always freezes and then doesn't dry out. Wool, on the other hand, insulates even when wet, so it continues to dry and keeps you warm. Trust me, (in my experience camping in a tent down to -40F) you want hair on your face and neck. The only thing to watch out for is the thickness you get and possibly the length of the gaiter (this gaiter covers my entire face and neck which is good and there is no extra length in my way which is nice ). This is a double layer legging made from 100% merino wool, 230 g/m2 interlock knit, 18.5 micron fiber (from the Minus33 website). So you really get a double layer of heavier Merino (light is usually around 150 g/m2 and medium around 190 g/m2). That's a good thing in cold weather. It won't be windproof, but that's what your outer layers are for. This item is great, it breathes and dries and I won't go back to anything else.
