Review on ACDelco 520 135 Advantage Charged Absorber by Edward Gordon

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A good compromise between the soft original shock absorbers and the really hard Gabriel/Monroe shock absorbers.

I bought these hoping the valves would be closer to stock than the usual Monroe/Gabriel rigid blocks. Also because the price is very attractive (at least for a Rockcar). We live 3 miles down a gravel road that's washable in places and the HD Monroe shocks on the truck we bought were terrible for a washboard. (Same as bilstein 4600 and 5100 btw) The truck now drives noticeably smoother over the washboard and other steep entrances such as expansion joints. The empty ride isn't as good as our other 2500s with OE shocks, but the loaded ride is definitely more controllable. FWIW, the OE shocks used on this generation 2500HD ('99-2010) had very little rebound damping compared to compression damping. . I assume the half-ton shocks had similar valving. These dampers have an over 50/50 feel and I think they are better suited to handling heavy loads, with a bit of a sacrifice in ride quality when the truck is empty. Exactly what I was looking for and I would buy them again.
