Shank Too Short

Unfortunately I spent a lot of money on a grooving cutter that just wasn't long enough. In order to get a groove in the wood I was working with, I couldn't use the shank just clamp 1/4" to my router/table combo with a collet. I just couldn't go any further with the depth adjustment on my router/table to get the shaft further into the collet. As it is, I tried covering it with a wooden box I had. Two seconds after the rotation, the cutter jumped out of the router. A good hold in my box when planing. Can you tell it's dangerous? See, I'll be the first to admit that I'm by no means an expert or maybe even a novice woodcarver, but an extra 1/4 on the shank would at least make this cutting job doable. It's useless to me.

Pros
  • 9/16" Depth of Cut
Cons
  • No Auto
