I use mine as a wallet with plenty of space to write and hold essential ID and information. It fits a Kawaco Sport pen perfectly, which is my pocket pen. The plastic inserts seem ok. haven't used them long enough to see if they get brittle. The craft paper book is VERY thick, and I removed it in favor of a "normal" grid book. The paper is good, no bleed, a bit slick. My refill are the Tomoe River paper ones and they fit perfectly. The cover is PERFECT. Heavy leather will last the rest of my life with care -- unless one of the guys I work with doesn't walk off with it. It gets a LOT of admiration. I am a bit annoyed by the metal charm bar on the elastic. It's a nuisance keeping it facing the correct direction. I will certainly recommend this journal and come back for the larger one.
