Review on NETGEAR Wi Fi Range Extender EX8000 by Richard Dean

Unable to maintain connection to wireless router

This seemed promising when it worked. It wasn't very long. I originally bought one of these on eBay at a discount and returned it thinking I had been sold a faulty unit. Then I bought another brand new one from Revain here and ran into the exact same problem. : The device works for a while, then disconnects and refuses to reconnect until reset. This is unacceptable and I will return it. I have a Nighthawk X4S wireless router in the main house and needed to connect across 30 feet of the yard and just the outside walls of the guest house. A cheap Wi-Fi adapter with an antenna connected to the computer in the guest house could pick up a strong 2.4G signal and a moderately weak 5G signal with no additional equipment, but I wanted the strong signal to all corners of both distribute structures and add a few ethernet ports to the guest house. This device seemed to fit the bill, and after some weird setup issues (the setup wizard showed green to indicate a good connection, but said 'No Connection'), things seemed to work. There was quick communication throughout the guest house. The extension always says something like 60-70% strength at 2.4g and maybe 40-50% at 5g. Unfortunately, it always stops working after a random amount of time. The PC in the guest house is hardwired to the extender and is showing a "No Connection" error in Windows. This actually degraded connectivity for Wi-Fi devices that were closer to the extender when they were in this error state. I can still access the repeater setup menu from the PC in the guest house when this happens and I've tried reconnecting it but it just refuses to connect to anything until it resets. Needless to say, I am returning this item and am considering other options.
