I don't mean to offend anyone but the negative reviews here are based on a misunderstanding regarding the use of a lava lamp. let me help When you receive your lamp it will come in 3 parts. A base (with a lightbulb inside), a bottle (with a "lava" inside), and a cap that goes on top of the bottle. Wax floats in the lava bottle. Inside this wax is a metal spring that heats up when the lamp is turned on. This metal coil MUST be near the light so shake, twist, wiggle or whatever you need to do to get the wax back to the bottom of the bottle like it was before shipping. THEN plug it in and wait at least an hour for it to heat up and start working. Mine lasted almost 2 hours in a cold room. But when it came down to it, it was amazing! That's all. It just works. The bad reviews probably didn't read the instructions as the writing is so small you can't even see it. Have fun!
