After adopting my previous cat Stomach cancer I have researched very seriously what is the best diet for cats ie what they need, what to avoid, what is downright toxic etc. I know cancer is largely genetic but dietary choices throughout Cat's lives are very important, if not just as important. I have never thought of cat food before as my previous cat ate purina or other inexpensive foods. Before having two new kittens, I was determined to get into cat nutrition. Almost every online review site I've found was either partially funded by a cat food manufacturer (with tons of banner ads promoting that food) or auto-generated (meaning no human involvement was expected; instead, the site's bots scoured the top 10 Search results found further on the web and then presented in a formatted form) or entirely opinionated. I've been looking for a long time for a site that looks at cat food from a scientific, numbers-based perspective. I've found 2-3 that fit that bill, with the most thorough and transparent (IMO) being the dash cat food. I have nothing to do with this site and never heard of it before doing my research. I urge you not to take my word for it ie you may find an even better site and if so please let us know. Anyway, they have reviewed over 1700 foods, they don't take money from any cat food company and they are very transparent about their rating system. I encourage everyone to try them as they recommend many brands not just Wysong and your needs may differ very different from mine, you may well choose a different option. I adopted two 4 month old kittens and chose grain free wet food (I chose Wellness CORE) as my main food and Wellness Optimal Vitality as my always available dry food. Well, here's my *unscientific* experience: My cat loves this food! They never turn up their noses and wait for their wet food; Instead, every time I refill their dry food bowls, they immediately start chewing. You have regular bowel movements and do not suffer from diarrhea or constipation. Their energy level is never a real issue for kittens! β just great at this rear. It's not a sudden burst of energy (i.e. it's not kitty crack π); Instead, it appears to give them a stable, long-term source of energy. They will play with all their hearts, take naps together and wake up without drowsiness. In contrast, after eating wet food after a meal, they will calm down and be relatively inactive until it's out of their stomach. But with this dry food they are open to everything after eating. Their coat is really shiny and pleasant to the touch. The color of their eyes is light, the pads of their paws are light pink, as are their noses. They are very attentive and seem very happy (totally subjective opinion, I mean how do you know a cat's outlook on life? :)) My vet is very impressed. Their hearts are strong, their eyes, ears and teeth are fine, and he commented on how wonderful their general health and looks were. At the end he writes down the name of this food and their wet food and will do his own research. Here's what I did and recommend you try: I took an empty Wysong bag to a meeting so he could read the ingredients. For wet food, I photographed the nutritional information on my phone and showed it to him. This is another recommendation I give you in general: make sure your vet is okay with any brand of food you decide to eat. I have so much faith in my vet that if he says something like this food is over the top or has trendy ingredients etc, I would discontinue it on his recommendation. So since he took the food I stayed with her. The only thing that got me thinking seriously is that the products are expensive. There are many cheaper alternatives and many of them are of high quality as well. After much thought I decided that paying extra money for Wysong is now preventive medicine ie pay now or pay later on vet bills. This may or may not be true (again, genetics are very important), but in my opinion, providing them with quality feed can only help. Sorry for the long review! I hope this can be helpful for some of you. PS Here are Roger and Grumpy these days. Although both have their own "feeding stations", they insist on eating kibble together. Find out. π
