Not exactly 18 watts. But otherwise it's a great design.

I bought a set of these lights and only needed one so I disassembled the other. The build blew my mind with the beautiful metal castings and excellent sealing of the entire assembly. I have no doubt that this flashlight will be fully waterproof and possibly even submersible to some extent. Everything fell apart when I tested the light on my lab power supply. As you can see from the picture it only draws 0.62A at 12V which means this flashlight actually only puts out 7.5W of power which is almost a third of the 18W stated in the description! (P=V*I, P=12V*0.62A, P=7.44W). This was constant from 9V to 30V input and I have also confirmed this with another calibrated DMM. For something with such an incredible and thoughtful design, I was very disappointed to see the board being so overpriced in the product specs. If you really need 18W of LED power, which equates to around 1300+ lumens, just know that given the wattage of this fixture, it's probably only putting out around 500-600 lumens. Now I'm trying to see if I can hack the board, maybe just replace the resistor to increase the current and provide real 18W of power. The heatsink is well designed and can easily handle 20+W of power.

Pros
  • Durable finish
Cons
  • Good but not great
