I already have a network of multiple computers with 1GB ethernet built in. However, when I write and move files to my media server, they can usually be over 10GB in size, so it took more than a few minutes. With 10GB ethernet, I can transfer data at any slowest drive speed (my main computer comes with NVMe drives, so RAID5 on my server is the new bottleneck at around 500MB per second, but that's over 5x faster than me). I have two cards specifically for connecting my main computer to a media server with a 10GB connection (the built-in 1GB ethernet is great for everything else, including the internet) and they work great together. Traditionally a Mac company, Sonnet installs on a Windows 10 PC and a Debian Linux server, and the build quality and performance are excellent. If I ever need to replace one of these on a Mac, I now have that too.
