These headphones (Philips X2HR Fidelio) blew me away. You have exceeded all of my expectations. I've been into headphones for over 15 years and have used a variety of brands and expensive headphones. Sennheiser, AKG, Denon and NAD Viso HP50. X2HR are my favorite headphones. I've never had headphones that I liked immediately, there has always been a 'get used to this sound' with all previous headphones I've had as different headphones have different characteristics, but these X2HRs sound fantastic right out of the box. Out of the box, no software EQ adjustments are required (although I always tweak the EQ a bit to my liking). Listening to music with these headphones is a real pleasure. In addition, they are very comfortable. Not too heavy, not too light, fits well. My previous headphones were closed back and had leather pads so they heated my ears very quickly and were uncomfortable, while these Philips X2HRs are open-back headphones and have velor pads so a lot more air gets in and the ears don't get hot anymore. Problem. The only downside is that velor pads collect a lot of dust and therefore need a good wipe down from time to time (you can also use masking tape to remove dust particles). I don't even know if Philips makes headphones. As I researched more and more, I found that a lot of people really like these X2HRs and they are supposed to be built like a tank and should be strong and last a long time. hope it's true I only had them for 6 months. I think the headphones are very durable/well made but the ear pads will likely need to be replaced at some point as velor is not the most durable material. Let's hope finding a replacement isn't difficult and installation is easy. The pads are good, they hold their shape and don't wrinkle/flatten. I considered getting a headphone stand for them but couldn't find anything I liked so ended up just getting the plastic insert. from the packaging (which is obviously designed for placement/shipping of these particular headphones) and I think this is the best solution, if you have enough space on your desk. When I'm done with that, I just put them back in the plastic form they came in and set them on my desk. It actually looks professional not a do-it-yourself solution. My sound settings only apply to my PC. I'm still using my (old) 1st gen Schiit Magni and Modi. I've actually never heard these phones without a DAC/amp so maybe that's a great combo. I've heard a lot of people say they don't need an amp or DAC to sound great, but they will certainly improve with a DAC/amp and they don't need much at all to rock them. These headphones are very reasonably priced, giving you the opportunity to Spend $100-$200 on a DAC/amp if you want. that they don't need an amp or DAC to sound great, but they will certainly improve with a DAC/amp, and they don't need much at all to rock them.
