2MP 2.8-12mm varifocal camera CMOS USB camera OV2710 sensor

This model is used as a PC camera (UVC) with a wide angle and a short telephoto lens. Sensitivity can be partially controlled with the manual aperture ring. This also affects the depth of field. A varifocal (zoom-type) lens allows for tighter cropping than a typical wide-angle to ultra-wide-angle webcam lens. The camera works on Windows 10 without drivers. It's literally "plug and play" which is great for WFH on corporate computers. Manual focus avoids the camera autofocusing back and forth. (This may seem like a disadvantage to some.) The USB cable is long and thick, so placement isn't an issue, and it needs to be solid. very little contact area and they tend to rotate on rigid mounts. Two sockets allow the camera to be installed vertically or in a hanging position. The lens quality is mediocre. At the wide end there is sharp vignetting in the corners and strong barrel distortion. There is a moderate tingling sensation at the long end. The image is better in the middle third of the zoom range. The lens is a varifocal lens (not a parfocal lens that maintains focus when zoomed in), so the focus must be changed when zooming in or out. The zoom and focus controls are very small and can easily be moved unintentionally. So plan to set your camera to specific settings and leave it there for the duration of your session.
