Recently, owners of older Chromebooks have received notifications that updates are no longer available and the Google Web Store has been suspended. If you have an older model, you can still use it, but without Chromebook OS updates. Thankfully, HP and other companies have released newer models that make better use of SD storage (when used with standard storage on a Chromebook). This particular model shares 32GB of SD card storage with Google Play Store apps and also allows the user to allocate storage specifically for a Linux development environment. If you had a previous Chromebook (set up in development mode) and used Crouton with xfce, you might have been frustrated with some features of the Linux desktop when you need it for apps that weren't available on Google (for your Chromebook) like RealVNC for remote desktop applications. Fortunately, the model allows more memory for Linux applications. If you decide to install a KDE desktop (I couldn't get Crouton to work) make sure you allocate 10GB (not the recommended amount) as the KDE desktop will load multiple applications that you might not need, including LibreOffice. very unreliable to use, but this Chromebook has a separate partition for Linux apps that can be run without having to boot to KDE first (no need to learn a new GUI) as this model uses virtual memory between the two operating systems better uses. When installing RealVNC, this application must be installed over KDE (using a .def file) from a terminal window. Once run from KDE, the application shortcut link is in the Linux Applications folder, eliminating the need to launch the separate Linux GUI first. It took me a few hours to get used to the features, but it's more reliable for hybrid work environments than previous generations. If you use Office, One Drive. or Nextcloud, these apps can be installed from the Google Play Store so you can use them as an app from your Chromebook instead of the Chrome web browser (if you prefer). Don't worry if you don't have enough storage space on your phone for gaming apps. Many gaming apps can be downloaded from Google Play and run on Chromebooks. The battery life is 15 hours and the power and performance is higher than previous models. Like most Chromebooks, it's lightweight and doesn't require much effort. cables connected to it. It works with Chromecast and is optionally available if the Chromebook sees one of them on the same network it's connected to. This model also works with OpenVPN without file conversion. Work. I recommend using UGreen's USB 3.0 1GB Ethernet Adapter if you want to use a wired network. Those who live in high-tech areas like Seattle, the Bay Area, or the Willamette Valley should know that the best security is wired Internet access to prevent any Wi-Fi snooping. This model does not have a touch screen.
