As others have said; You get what you pay for. Way better than anything sold at hardware stores or hardware stores, but not in the Starret or PEC leagues at all. The rule has nice deep markings that contrast well with the front of the rule. Some thin steel wool and a drop of anti-friction varnish helped. One thing I don't like is what happens when you type the rule in the header to get the maximum usable length of the rule. The track along which the ruler moves inside the head has a ridge at both ends. Once the ruler is about 1/8 inch inside the head, the ruler cannot be locked successfully and will move up and down.
