I bought this for my Miniature Dachshund who is almost a year old. Of course I went down a size. Bad idea. The sleeves were tight and only after struggling with the buttons were we able to button them up. She went very stiff (which made us laugh, yes we're mad) for a while before we took it off her. I should have ordered a medium size. However, the coat was needed immediately, so we simply return the money and do not exchange. I think a medium size would fit her snugly, if not a bit loose. Just keep in mind that you may need to build on what you think your dog suits. This is a great coat aside from the size. It's warm to the touch, the fabric feels comfortable, and the construction feels pretty solid as far as I can tell. If you are thinking of buying this for YOUR Dachshund, order a medium size and also note that it only comes down to the middle of the back, no further. This coat is cut very cropped (another reason why we decided not to just swap it out for a different size).
