We've used them for family cycling and as a home base to stay connected. We had to read the instructions to sort things between options, but it's the same for other radios we've bought so that's to be expected. So far we're happy with the sound quality and 1-2 mile range. This distance corresponds to the level of the ground passing through a fairly densely populated area with two-story houses. They work great with our Midland GXT radios. They come with rechargeable AA batteries and a charging stand, but can use regular AA batteries if needed.
