Review on Seagate IronWolf 7200RPM Internal 3 5 Inch by Quinton King

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great value for data storage

This review is for the 10TB Ironwolf (Amazon bundles all sizes in reviews). I really don't know what some people are saying about noise, vibration and compatibility in their reviews. YES, you can use NAS drives like regular desktop drives. Nowhere on the Seagate website does it say bug fixes are nonexistent or limited. I've used NAS drives like regular desktop drives for years with no noticeable difference in how they work/function compared to a "desktop" drive. In fact, I prefer them for general storage as they last longer and can be used non-stop. With all mechanical actuators I've bought in the past, you could tell the actuator was on by simply touching the actuator body. You may feel a slight vibration from the spinning discs. Not this drive. This drive absolutely does NOT vibrate, even when reading/writing. When cloning this drive, I hear almost no sound. It's as quiet, if not QUIET, than any of my other mechanical drives. For mechanical drives (I use SSDs in RAID 0 for OS and software) I switched from WD drives to Seagate drives about 10 years ago. WD had great warranties and service, but I've called on the warranty far too often. Knock on wood, I personally haven't had a single Seagate drive failure. I've just had better luck with Seagate drives. I know everything will fail sooner or later, but I always try to delay that inevitability for as long as possible.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something
