We bought this for our farm cats (photo of untested ant trails) and it has worked from day one (a year). We haven't had to do any maintenance, cleaning, adjustments - nothing - since we got it. Shot and forget, relax, move on. Critical: A dish must not touch anything else. If you keep the plate away from objects, cabinets, walls, leftover food, etc., the ants cannot reach the top. However, there are undoubtedly cunning, skilled siege ants that will definitely win. So 90% of the time it works 100% of the time.
