Fio trio! FD3 vs FD5 vs FD1

(Standard Edition Review) Shockingly good build for $99! They border on gaudy, extravagant decoration and look/feel expensive! The gold ring and huge Fiio logo are an afterthought, but I still think they look pretty cool. The black swirly pattern on the earbud looks like spots in the right light, but that's exactly what it is. The cable is exactly the same as the FD1 and definitely excellent and better than most IEMs I've tried (much better than the Blessing 2 cable of course). I still prefer to cut the tubing to the ear, which I did with this and the FD1. Nice little clear carrying case (like the FD1) and lots of attachments that fit into individual cards. Great result so far for the price! As expected from Fiio. Now for the first and only disappointment with the FD3. The interchangeable tips on it are the disabled version of the FD5. First, the nozzles are the same size. That's good for the included earbuds, but bad for people who can rely on a narrower earbud for a good fit. It also severely limits the number of combinations you can make with the sound, eliminating any tight, crowded peaks. And secondly, the second tube is not pre-installed, it just sounds bad. If you have a gradual drop in power when going from FD5 to FD3 and to FD1, then FD3 with the second jets is FD0. Bright, exciting, tiring, strange sound. What is that? Anyway, I only need the first nozzle. The best way to describe their sound is the FD5 baby. It definitely won't help most people who haven't heard FD5, but at least I can say it's good! The semi-open design offers an impressive sense of scale that most IEMs don't have, making them surprisingly immersive. Your signature is pretty harmless and doesn't really do anything wrong. Overall it's just a good sound, as evidenced by the fact that you can change it to your liking with various tips. I liked the bass peaks as they fit best and are a bit more fun to listen to. That being said, I'm impressed with the price and can't remember anything with a soundstage like this at this price point. In fact, they're damn good! If you add the FD5 and FD1, it becomes clear that they occupy a cautious intermediate position between them in terms of performance. FD5 does the same as FD3, but better. Nicer packaging/presentation, better/more accessories, superior cable and improved sound. The soundstage is a bit larger, the highs are a bit more defined (with narrow peaks), the bass is MUCH more impressive (compared to bass peaks) but can be slightly muted depending on the peak/peak. But the FD3 undoubtedly wins on price. The FD3 is SIMPLY $40 compared to the FD1, but $200 more for the FD5? It was worth it for me because I loved the FD3 and wanted more (and got it!), but the FD3 is a great compromise if you're looking to save some money. On the other hand, the FD1 still costs a decent $60, but it really can't compete with the FD3 and FD5. You can tell the family signature is still there, but now with the loss of that expansive soundstage and the addition of those infamous Fiio highs that people tend not to like. FD1 is bright and fatiguing compared to FD3 or FD5. I used to love it very much, but comparisons seem to bring out the worst in everything and everyone. I don't like it when the case is too big either, but I prefer the 2-pin connection with the MMCX. Maybe there is some advice that will really help them. FD3 is just a good all-round choice. While it's a little quirky with a useless second nozzle and glossy looks, its build quality and sound make up for it. While there really are too many options to choose from at this price point, I think the FD3 offers enough to make it a market leader, especially with its soundstage, which I feel is unique among many others. If you have the money, buy the FD5. Otherwise I think they rated it well enough that it wasn't just for FD5. Although it is simple compared to FD1. Anyway, have these tips ready and get ready!
