Hands-free opening mechanism does not work in the dark

I bought this to use under the sink. Finding the right size trash can for under the sink space is very difficult. The area under the sink has great width and depth, but not great height. Most trash cans are too tall to fit in, especially if they have a hinged lid. I'm only 23 inches tall and this trash can fits perfectly with the lid open. The main problem is that the touchless lid opening mechanism (wave your hand over the lid) doesn't work in the dark and it's dark under the sink. The mechanism for opening hands-free depends one way or another on whether your hand interrupts the light. I think there is a sensor on the lid that picks up the light above it. When you move your hand over the lid, your hand blocks the light, the sensor detects this and commands the lid to open. However, there is no light under the sink to block so it doesn't work. You have to manually press the Open button. This is a serious problem. Otherwise, I think a trash can is a good purchase. The stainless steel looks good. It's relatively easy to assemble. The lid still works. It fits well under the sink. Therefore I give 3 stars. Edit: 5 weeks later he died. The top began to open and close by itself. Then it wouldn't open at all. Garbage.
