Canon simply rules the world of imaging. Photographing, printing, scanning, etc., they do it all. This is probably my third Canon scanner in all these years. My first was the Canoscan LiDE 20, this bluish purple thing. It worked perfectly for 20 years without the slightest failure, but somehow it got lost, most likely during the move. Then I had a Canon all-in-one printer, which again had no problems. I've since gifted my parents all in one, but found again that I needed a scanner. After studying other manufacturers, I had to choose what I trust - Canon. I'm grateful they moved from the purple ogre scheme to the more elegant black. It definitely goes well with the devices near my desk. The scan speed has certainly improved from 20, so it's nice, but it's not a drastic increase. Image quality is key here - it's outstanding. 2400 x 4800 dpi is sufficient by today's standards, and again, scanned photos, documents, etc. come out very clean and crisp with accurate colors. I cannot recommend any other scanner other than this one!
