This container holds a lot of ice without taking up much freezer space. The design makes it easy to get out ice cream without littering in the corners like disposable boxes. The lid also closes well so the ice doesn't burn in the freezer. We put our ice in the dishwasher, which Tovolo says is possible. I've seen mixed reviews about how difficult it is to put back together. The problem with ours is that the outer layer sags a bit, but does so on the sides after washing it in the dishwasher. In this case it can be difficult to lock the inner pan in place as you have to pull out the outer pan from two sides. Looking back, I would only put the lid and inner layer in the dishwasher and hand wash the thinner outer container.
