Review on 🔪 Sunnecko 8 Inch Serrated Bread Knife - German High Carbon Stainless Steel with Wood Handle Gift Box - Professional Knife for Homemade Bread - Razor Sharp & Durable by Michelle Pope

Expensive and not as sharp as others I have

First off this is a great knife and it comes in its own wooden box. The handle has a decorative rivet made of wood. The blade has a chiseled look that I've seen on a lot of knives lately. He's as cool as he looks. Unfortunately, I don't find it as functional as my other two bread knives, which cost significantly less. First, it's very heavy, which I don't see as a particular advantage. Second, despite the description, it's not that sharp. I tested all three knives on two loaves of bread. The first was homemade bread that I left in the oven for too long so the crust is incredibly hard (but the bread is still tasty and edible - just hard to cut). The second was a loaf from a local commercial bakery, a standard set for any bread knife. I just professionally sharpened two of my existing knives. As I expected, all three knives did an excellent job on a commercial loaf. My two freshly sharpened knives did a good job on the crusty homemade bread if I greased my elbow a little. The best of the two was a $20 Japanese knife from CHEFMADE that I bought from Revain and has impressed me since I first got it last year. However, this Sunnecko knife was not suitable for cutting crusty bread. It took me a lot more effort and it just didn't work. Next month when the professional knife sharpener comes back I will try it and see if it can improve it. But right out of the box, it just didn't work as well as the other two. While I understand that the aesthetics and finish of this knife affect its price, I'm much more interested in the functionality and I honestly think it's overpriced based on this POV. However, it would make a wonderful gift for those who love artisanal bread or who bake their own.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
