Review on Seagate Barracuda 1TB HDD ST1000DM003 by Wiktor Pozna ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The quality is at the level, I am satisfied with everything.

Its pros: 1. Really fast! The standard Ubuntu Disk Utility gave 97 to 206 MB/s for reading (average 168), for writing from 82 to 226 MB/s (average 157). Average access time 14.2 ms. I wanted to buy an SSD first. But I thought volume was more important. And then it turned out that in terms of speed it is not inferior to SSDs at all. 2. Slim. 3. Weakly heated. In a closed block at +30 in the room, it heats up to 37 degrees (my other drive heated up to 44). 4. I did not notice extraneous knocks. Cons below: Since the disk is 1 TB, it has large clusters (apparently instead of the usual 512 there are 2048 or 4096). As a result, with standard markup, the partition offset is 512 bytes (since the boot partition is just 512 bytes). Ubuntu gave me a warning for the second partition that performance could drop sharply due to the offset. There is some kind of dance with a tambourine, but I did not take risks and allocated the entire disk under one partition. I think this is a problem not only of this disk, but in general of all disks larger than 1 TB. I do not know how this nuance resolves Windows. But just in case, I warn you.
