Review on DB Electrical SMT0161 Starter Mitsubishi by Troy Gerhardt

Revainrating 1 out of 5

Failed after 2 weeks

Updated and downgraded from 5 stars to 1 star: The starter failed two weeks after installation. Solenoid clicks but starter does not turn. I checked the connections, replaced the battery ($120), replaced the starter relay ($25) and ignition switch ($12). Waste of money because this starter turns out to be junk. Oh and the mechanic who installed it charged $65 which I would have to pay again to remove this and install the $150 Denso starter I should have bought in the first place. Addendum: replaced. Starter with Denso OE starts without problems. Have contacted the seller. He said he would accept the return but deduct 25% "Restocking Fee". Not sure why a defective item needs restocking? Shouldn't it be repaired or disposed of? On top of that, I paid $18 for the return shipping out of my own pocket + another $65 for the Denso OE replacement installation work. Trust me, DB Electrical doesn't sell cheap starters. After all, their stuff is many times more expensive than originals. Lesson: In most cases, buying cheap things is more expensive. Easy installation, works as it should. I was a little worried about the low price and the fact that it's made in China, but it works well, unlike the Mangneti-Marelli/Mopar starter which was twice the price and arrived defective. Will update this review in a few months. with reliability report.
