Moisture in the air attacks metal and the only thing that can protect a blade is oil. Yes, it's oily, but it's very sharp, and as long as you're only cutting fabric and nothing else like paper (made of wood), your blade will last a very, very long time. Lubricate the blade with oil to protect it when not in use and dry it when ready to use. It's a pain but you paid so much for it so take care of it. I'm really excited about the sharpness. I have Fiskars shears and others and I find them to be an excellent product. Only time will tell, I only had a month. If it's bad I'll update. I'm sorry for the people who didn't like it. I keep my scissors because some people just don't understand that it's a tool that can easily be ruined.
