Not transparent, very thick. I'm 200lbs and am a size 14-16 and when I wear it high on my stomach it still fits which is shocking because after taking it out of my bag I was sure I would have to return it, so i'm very happy about it. However, if you are looking for an elegant and expensive item, this is not it. The tulle is sewn on the outside in about 4" pieces, so you can see the stitching all over the place. It's not noticeable from a distance, but if you look closely, you can see them clearly. Also, the hem of the dress is very raw tailored. Mine has strings and torn edges and is uneven. I like it because I think it looks edgy and punky, but if you're looking for elegance then you might not like it. I would definitely check it out again Buy other colors and patterns
