Great for removing a VW valve spring

My two sons and I are restoring a 2002 VW Pipe Buggy. Before this c-clamp compressor, I bought an OTC universal spring compressor (the one that grabs the spring with hooks); it didn't work for VW heads. So I spent a little more on this C-Clip version and it did its job well. It has a wide range of cap sizes so it can definitely be used to rebuild other engines.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Works great on GM engines.

Otc was bought by Bosch. Otc/spx is a company that makes specialty tools for GM/Ford/ and Dodge. This is a great quality product. Works great with Luv 1.4 GM engines as they are known for cracking heads. Also works very well with ls engines v8. This is a very good valve spring compressor that will work with almost anything. I've been using OTC tools for years as both Matco and Mac tools sell OTC tools by name. You can buy OTC tools here on Amazon for a lot less.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

Harley Milwaukee 8 valve spring tool.

I work at a Harley dealership and when I realized the tools in the shop weren't enough I looked online. I found some very cheap tools that may have worked, but I'm familiar with the over-the-counter brand as we've been using their tools for many years. It was so easy. I was standing at the service desk when I ordered this from my phone. Prime delivered it the next day and it was only on my lift for a day. So if you're using aftermarket valve springs and bushings on your new M8, consider this…

Good quality tool

Good quality tool at a good price. I used it to rebuild a Honda motorcycle head. This made the job quick and easy. I would recommend this to anyone rebuilding heads for smaller engines. I can't speak to its effectiveness for valve operation on an engine like a V-8, although I don't see why it wouldn't work with that head size; I just haven't done it yet. It is well built and NOT made from hollow steel tubing like many other spring compressors available in the same price range. This is not a…

was perfect. He compressed the spring so that I .

I was trying to use some cheap "universal" valve spring compression tools on a '98 Honda Accord engine head. None of them fit well enough to be useful. This tool, on the other hand, was PERFECT. Compression made to the spring so you can easily insert the semi-circular "holders". It's designed to accommodate really different cylinder heads as well as different diameter valve springs. Don't waste your money on the $20 "universal" valve spring compression tools you'll see at your local auto parts…

Pros
  • Heavy-duty steel C-frame with 9" bore and 5" neck.
Cons
  • Security

Good enough to get the job done

The tool gets the job done. I work with Toyota engines and specifically the 4AGE series. The tool could have been better designed as the side that comes in contact with the valve tends to mark the valve as it has no seat other than the threads themselves. Like most general purpose tools, they are not ideal for Toyota valves and heads. As a result, they tend to snag on the sides of the aluminum shaft that the valves are inserted into. But that's a minor annoyance and with a little persuasion the

Pros
  • The durable, blow molded storage case lets you store and organize your tools so they're ready when you need them
Cons
  • Legacy

Fits well on latest sport bike valves, looks well made

I bought this kit to fit valve springs on a Kawasaki ZX6R. The product worked great; Clamp and thread are strong. It compresses the springs with very little effort. The 19mm adapter was perfect for this application. You have to be a little careful not to damage the machined hole in the bucket and bottom surface, but I think that's fine. A word of advice: wrapping the adapter in electrical tape and a rubber tip (or tape) on the exposed end of the screw can help prevent accidental impacts that…
